About the Role
This is an opportunity to join a highly skilled and passionate team who are focused on the safety of women and children escaping Domestic and Family Violence. As an Administrative Assistant for our Wilcannia Safe House (WSH) service, you will be responsible for supporting the team across site and service aspects. The primary function of this role is to support the Wilcannia (WSH) Service Delivery Team including accurate and timely completion of WSH accounts payable activities, supporting financial reporting requirements, office and system monitoring, reception and administration work.
The position is required to support and provide an effective first response to all people contacting the WSH service in line with DVSM’s values. This includes ensuring all people contacting the service are met with a positive social response and follow up of a high standard.
The WSH service provides refuge accommodation for women and children escaping Domestic and Family Violence, in addition to outreach support. As part of the Domestic Violence Service Management (DVSM) Team, you will be responsible for delivering person centred, strengths-based case management services within a Human Rights Framework.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in similar role
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail, efficiency and ownership
- Strong computer literacy skills (including Adobe and Microsoft – Outlook, Excel, Power Point and Word, SharePoint, MS Teams)
- Excellent verbal communications skills including competence to manage sensitive matters and materials
- Excellent written communications skills and willingness to minute, proof, edit and author documents
- A confident, proactive ‘can-do’ attitude with willingness to multitask and self-manage competing priorities with proactive communication and flexibility to support the team
- Demonstrated ability to be self-directing, plan and prioritise workload and show initiative
- Commitment to organisational and community confidentiality
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and take initiative in relationship building
Desirable Criteria
- An interest in and understanding of responses to experiences of domestic and family violence
- Qualification in Business Administration or similar; or willing to obtain

Purpose of the Position
As a Case Manager for our Wilcannia Safe House (WSH), you will be responsible for delivering person centred, strength-based case management services within a Human Rights Framework. This includes work within a crisis safe house and outreach for women and children escaping domestic and family violence. The ability to participate in on-call roster is an essential requirement of the role.
The Case Manager role is positioned at SCHADS Award Level 4. DVSM pay above Award rates as a registered charity we can offer the salary packaging benefits.
Key Accountabilities
- Work in alignment with DVSM values and principles
- Provide comprehensive case management in alignment with DVSMs Practice Framework to an allocated case load of clients
- Contribute to client services program objectives
- Support the team in WHS and maintenance of the safe house
- Contribute to the design and continuous improvement of efficient service systems
- Fulfil duties in the relevant Duties Matrix
- Perform at the relevant level in the Community Services Capability Framework
- Adhere to DVSM’s Policies and Procedures
- Undertake other duties within the scope of this role, as reasonably directed
SELECTION CRITERIA

- Relevant tertiary qualifications at a minimum certificate 3 or 4 and/or relevant industry training
- Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of domestic and family violence
- Demonstrated ability to use strengths-based case management approach
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail, efficiency and ownership
- Demonstrated ability to be self-directing, plan and prioritise workload and show initiative
- Excellent verbal communications and interpersonal skills including competence to manage sensitive matters and materials
- Sound written communication skills, including knowledge of best practice in writing case notes
- Computer literacy skills to at least an intermediate level
- A confident, proactive ‘can-do’ attitude with willingness to multitask and self-manage competing priorities with proactive communication and flexibility to support the team
- Ability to be able to participate in an on-call roster
Desirable Criteria
- Minimum 1 year’s case management experience
- Experience working with a coordinated, wrap around service model
- Prior experience working in Specialist Homelessness Services
- Proven ability to work without direct supervision in outreach services

We have been awarded an exciting new ACSS pilot program in our Western Sydney region which means that DVSM is continuing to grow its business in 2023! In addition, the new ACSS pilot program will run for 3.5 years until 30 June 2026!
As a result, we have created five new positions:
- Service Lead x 1 – this role is positioned at SCHADS Award Level 6
- Case Managers x 2 – these roles are positioned at SCHADS Award Level 4
- Child & Adolescent Specialists x 2 – these roles are positioned at SCHADS Award Level 4
Would you like to be involved in this pilot program? If yes, we are looking for creative and flexible candidates whose passion is being an advocate for children, young people and families. You will be based in different locations across our Blacktown LGA, depending on the needs of the clients.
About the program
The ACSS is a pilot program which aims to identify children and young people who are accompanying adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and who have experiences domestic and family violence. The program will support children and young people to achieve their goals and manage trauma associated with homelessness and lived experiences of domestic and family violence. The program will focus on improving short, medium and long term outcomes for individuals and to ensure they are connected to ongoing community and family support.
The ACSS will be implemented in a way that is person-centred and trauma informed and will be provided in our refuges or in an outreach setting, depending on the needs of the children and young person.
A person-centred approach focuses on the child or young person’s life experience, age, gender, culture, heritage, language, beliefs and identity. Support should focus on achieving the person’s aspirations and be tailored to their needs and unique circumstances.
A trauma informed approach will recognise the impact of trauma on victim/survivors and develop and implements trauma informed practices based on evidence of what the individual client says or indicates is effective and works for them.
The eligibility criteria of the ACSS pilot program is for children and young people who are:
- Accompanied by an adult (i.e. parent, older sibling, family member, kin etc.) who is receiving support from the specialist homelessness service piloting this service and consents to the child or young person receiving the service AND
- Experiencing, or are at risk of, homelessness AND
- Experiencing, or who have experienced, domestic and family violence.
If a young person is unable to be accommodated in a refuge or crisis accommodation with their family members due to their age and/or gender, support will still be provided to them in an outreach capacity.
