We have been awarded an exciting new program within Wilcannia, Far West region. This new program is focused on re-engaging the Wilcannia Community following the detrimental impacts of COVID-19. The funding for the program is via Resilience NSW.

Accommodation will be provided at the Wilcannia Community Hub if required to the successful candidate.

The overall vision is to offer a safe place – at our newly developed Wilcannia Community Hub – for the Wilcannia community to connect with each other and their country and culture.

We are looking for an experienced Community Engagement Program Officer for our Wilcannia Community Hub, you will support DVSM to develop and deliver this new program which aims to:

  • Launch and manage activities and events encouraging and supporting the community to utilize the Wilcannia Community Hub.
  • Strengthen local networks and social connections which is paramount to building a resilient community.
  • Continually measure the effectiveness of the program in consultation with the community and refine as needed.

We are a registered charity which aims to prevent and to provide support for people escaping/experiencing Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) and homelessness.

DVSM provides support services in an urban context (Inner Sydney), in a suburban context (Western Sydney) and in remote rural NSW (Wilcannia).

Our organisation is committed to protecting children and young people.

Purpose of Position

DVSM is committed to enriching and supporting the rural and remote community of Wilcannia, following on from the devastating impacts of COVID-19.

Planning and launching activities and events through the Wilcannia Community Hub is our first step to enhancing the wellbeing of the residents of Wilcannia.

This role is positioned SCHADS Award Level 5.

Key Accountabilities

As the Community Engagement Program Officer for our newly developed Wilcannia Community Hub, you will support DVSM to develop and deliver this new program which aims to:

  • Plan, launch and manage activities and events encouraging and supporting the community to utilize the Wilcannia Community Hub.
  • Strengthen local networks and social connections which is paramount to building a resilient community.
  • Continually measure the effectiveness of the program in consultation with the community and refine as needed.
  • Work in alignment with DVSM values and principles.
  • Adhere to DVSM’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Undertake other duties within the scope of this role, as reasonably directed.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum 3 years work experience in a similar community engagement role within the community services sector.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of domestic and family violence.
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships to achieve a mutually beneficial outcome.
  • Strong passion for engaging and building relationships within the community.
  • Ability to organize and implement community engagement activities within an allocated budget.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail, efficiency and ownership.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directing, plan and prioritise workload and show initiative.
  • Excellent verbal communications and interpersonal skills including competence to manage sensitive matters and materials.
  • Sound written communication skills
  • Computer literacy skills to at least an intermediate level.
  • A confident, proactive ‘can-do’ attitude with willingness to multitask and self-manage competing priorities with proactive communication and flexibility to support the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to effect and maintain a positive workplace culture and environment.
  • Current Driver’s License.
  • Current First Aid certificate.

PD Community Engagement Program Officer – Wilcannia Community Hub

A successful Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Federal Police check is required to be employed with DVSM.
